'How to make every year a year for citizens!'

Thursday, 12 December 2013 (All day) - Friday, 13 December 2013 (All day)
Lithuanian Parliament 'Seimas' in Vilnius

On 12 and 13 December 2013, the Closing Conference of the European Year of Citizens 2013 will take place at the Lithuanian Parliament 'Seimas' in Vilnius. The event has been organised by the European Commission (through its European Year of Citizens 2013 Taskforce) in close cooperation with the European Year of Citizens Alliance (EYCA) and the Lithuanian Presidency.

Building on The Open University's expertise in Citizenship, Jack Harrington, a Research Associate with Oecumene, was invited to join a panel discussion on disengagement with politics in Europe. This is one of a number of events to mark the European Year of Citizens that the Oecumene team has been involved with. Our European policy work is part of the longer term impact of the FP7 funded Enacting European Citizenship Project (2008 to 2011),  led by Professor Engin Isin.

The European Year of Citizens coincides with the publication of  'Enacting European Citizenship' edited by Michael Saward and Engin Isin and published by Cambridge University Press.
